The course seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of how to maximise social impact by integrating principles of strategic decision-making, ethical leadership, and innovative financial approaches. Students will be enabled to develop the tools to design, implement, monitor and evaluate compassionate and community philanthropy initiatives that address complex societal challenges, ensuring sustainable and equitable change in communities.

The Certificate in Faith-Based Philanthropy is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to lead and manage philanthropic efforts through a faith-consistent approach. This course focuses on the unique role that faith-based organisations and individuals play in addressing social challenges, fostering community development, and supporting charitable initiatives. This course is ideal for religious leaders, nonprofit managers, donors, volunteers, and anyone interested in integrating faith with philanthropy to create positive change in their communities. Upon completion, participants will earn a certificate validating their faith-based philanthropic leadership expertise.
Participants will explore the theological foundations of philanthropy, the practical aspects of fundraising, donor engagement, project management, and effective communication. Through case studies, discussions, and interactive assignments, learners will understand how to align faith principles with sustainable development and social impact goals.
The course opens with theoretical and comparative discussions of philanthropy in a variety of
religious contexts before turning to the development and practice of religious philanthropy in Africa as well as an introductory glance at its intersections with global philanthropy. The primary focus is cultural and historical, but students will also explore how the issues discussed in class affect individuals, institutions, and civil society in contemporary contexts through research and application.
